Defensive Rifle Techniques I
A rifle or carbine is the ultimate force equalizer for almost any self-defense situation. Whether you’re deploying a rifle in your home, your vehicle, or elsewhere, rifles are almost always a better tool than a pistol. Rifles are easier to shoot, they are more accurate (especially at a distance), have a greater ammunition capacity, and their rounds are simply more capable at stopping a threat.
Unfortunately, too many people own a rifle and have never had the opportunity to practice with it in a meaningful way.
Anyone who owns, or wants to own a self-defense rifle should take this course. Whether you are a new shooter, or a seasoned professional, this Defensive Rifle I class will provide you an opportunity to learn and practice modern defensive rifle shooting techniques.
Our instructors are able to work with each student at their pace so every participant can improve their skill set. New shooters can focus on basic rifle techniques, while experienced shooters can challenge themselves in a 360-degree training environment
NOTE:
If you would ALSO like to learn Defensive Pistol Techniques, sign up for the Defensive Firearms Techniques course (rather than the Rifle I course). The Defensive Firearms course includes both handgun and rifle training.
If you would like to rent a rifle for the class, simply write us a note on the registration page about rentals and we will get back to you.
If you have a rifle in your home, or vehicle for defensive purposes, consider this.
- Self-defense shootings don’t happen on a square range.
- Your threat won't be a two-dimensional stationary paper target.
- Your threat won’t be standing still.
- Your threat will be trying to hurt or kill you (or your family).
- Your survivability will be dependent on your knowledge, skills, and judgment!
If you are using your rifle for defensive purposes your training must be dedicated to learning how to fight with your weapon!
- Rifle familiarization and safety
- Discuss accessories including optics, back up iron sights, weapon mounted lights and slings
- Proper stance, grip, sight alignment plus “high ready/low ready” techniques which are fundamental for muzzle discipline.
- Malfunction clearing, emergency reloads, tactical reloads and speed reloads.
- Marksmanship principals for real world situations (not competition).
- Target identification and threat discrimination over “speed shooting” for bystander safety.
- Skills for engaging multiple threats with accurate shot placement.
- Accurate shot placement while moving for dynamic situations and getting off the "X".
- Selection of cover and concealment and use of space.
- Dominate and non-dominate shooting positions to gain a tactical advantage or due to situational factors.
NOTE:
Most Defensive Rifle I classes include stress drills where you will safely move through a predetermined course of fire engaging targets. These drills are optional based on each shooter’s abilities and comfort levels.
If students cannot safely keep up with the course tempo, the instructor staff may have students continue drills with gun clear and safe or sit out during the exercise for the safety of the group.
